Superheroes Suck Jamie Zakian Books
I don't read a lot of YA, because it has to be so dark as to really be written for adults before I can usually enjoy it. Ms. Zakian is the exception to that rule because she has the knack of writing teens as they really think. Something that is so rare in this industry. I *always* buy her books for my tween, who also loves them. And as usual, the author sucks you into her world easily with her stunning, brilliant prose. The characters are truly written how young adults think and respond to things, so I really appreciate seeing that in YA. Most YA lacks that, being written by, on average, 40 year olds who think completely differently from a teenager. Some of the choices Shay makes are exactly the choices I made as a kid, so to see that on page was pretty powerful for me. With the author's signature fantastic pacing and well thought out, quirky sense of plot, this is definitely a must read if you like YA like it should be written and if you like Superheros. It's a fantastic book. The author nails the confusion a teenager would feel given the circumstances in the book, and honestly? I really loved that she exposed the way kids who experience trauma tend to grow up a bit faster than adults around them expect or approve of.Another win for Ms. Zakian.

Superheroes Suck Jamie Zakian Books Reviews
This was definitely a fun read for me! I love superheroes and this was a fun twist on them for sure!
It was one of those stories that was fast paced so I didn’t want to put my book down I love books like that.
I do think there were one or two plot holes but nothing that kept from enjoying the overall story.
If you love superheroes I think this is def a book to check out! Great for a fun and quick read maybe while on vacation!
I got an advanced copy from Library Thing and I cruised through this YA book quickly. As a fan of Superhero stories, this one certainly delivered on the visceral love of super heroes. The love affair, the gradual revelation of the individual powers, the modern take on integrating personal and 'professional' life; it was all well imagined and thoughtfully done. I think there could be more books to come in this story line and I would love to read them when they do.
This was interesting. I began not really liking Evie due to her feeling she is the only one that knows what is best. She is very rigid about things. You can see that her intention for everything she does is to keep her sister safe. Especially after what happened to their parents.
Shay was an awkward teen who was sweet and smart. She didn’t care what others thought but she did care about her sister and what she wanted. Everyday for her was where she saw superheroes fight villains and her sister go in to do the insurance aspect afterwards. Shay isn’t really liking either villain or hero but she does respect the superhero. Suddenly she meets Max and things get crazy. She feels sparks with him and he with her but doesn’t know why. Suddenly her world goes upside down when her sister decides to do something shocking to the superheroes. Now she is stuck in a position that allows her to use her love for science to change how fighting occurs. Only this goes upside down and sideways.
Now she is wanted by the villains, her sister isn’t acting normally and Max is feeling something towards her due to the activation of the second soul. She is trying to find herself and in the process her best friend is having a hard time with all the changes in her world. Max is trying to figure out who he wants and Evie is trying to protect her.
The villains seem to have more to them. Lucius is true evil and you can see that Cyrus only follows him at first because he is his brother. Cyrus wants good things and is brilliant but does get caught up in his brothers twisted dreams and what he does to Evie was so wrong. You can see his love for her but also his desire to do what he hopes will help others clouds his judgment.
The story of good vs. evil is written with a fun twist. We see Shay come into her own and find that she is stronger for it all. We see her mind and her maturity but also that she is only in high school as well. she does a great job figuring out where she belongs at times but also is so confused by her feelings. She does grow and what Max says at the end was incredibly swoony. Simon and how he helped Evie see all sides and show her that she is family with the superheroes. The plot is imaginative and fun. We see so much action and danger. There is imagination in the story that makes it unique and the perspective of the villains was unique. A great tale that keeps you in the tale and enjoying the journey of Shay and how she goes from thinking heroes suck to becoming one.
